A Little Bit of Self Treat - Toy Style

Well, I have noticed this new hobby/Radio Control shop at Ballito Junction (Branch of Planes, Trains, Automobiles: http://pt-a.co.za/), and as you might know, men never grow up when it comes to tech-toys. One good explanation and a decent demo... and I was hooked.

The helicopter the guy demoed to me was the Nine Eagles Free. As a demonstration of how the heli fly, check this out: RC Nine Eagles Solo Helicopter (Youtube.com). This is not the demo from the shop, mind you :)

Now my first ever heli-buy was a disaster (fun for a little while until I realized it was garbage-worthy) so I was a bit sceptical. But after I realized that this guy is not just a salesman, he did not need much to convince me.

As I got home I couldn't pack away everything away and hang the laundry fast enough. I felt like a little boy again :-P It took me about 2 sessions to master the basics and to not seriously crash the heli. Now I can at least make it take off and land without running after it and catch it in mid-air. Something that is quite cool about this little toy is that the structure seem to be rigid and the parts interconnect in such a way that breakage is minimised (talking about the rotors here).

For example it once got caught in the curtain and it fell... :( I did see a rod fly with instant disappointment. On closer inspection it proved to be that by design it will snap off the shaft easily to prevent damage. It meant my excitement was far from over!

Now I think I might convince some of my colleagues to get their own... Friday Afternoon Fun :D
